The director succeeds in making both roles interesting to begin with Rajnikanth differentiates sufficiently between the two roles. Ilaiyaraja delivers a blockbuster soundtrack that is a mix of different kinds of songs. Aasaiya Kaathula is very catchy with its tribal beats and music lingering in our ears for a long time.

Rajnikanth played the character named Kaalaiyan and he became a larger than lhe imagine and a true superstar of Tamil film industry after this film. S.P.Muthuraman who directed this film went onto direct 25 films with Rajnikanth.
